How to Clean Your Lash Lift Shields

As a lash artist, keeping tools perfectly clean is non-negotiable. Not just for client safety, but to ensure every lash lift delivers the best possible results. One item that can easily get overlooked is the lash lift shield. Because it comes into direct contact with the eyelid, adhesive, and solutions, it needs to be cleaned and disinfected properly after every use.

Here’s our recommended step-by-step method to follow when cleaning your lash lift shields, using professional hygiene standards suitable for UK salons.

Why Cleaning Lash Lift Shields Properly Matters

When shields aren’t cleaned correctly, they can hold onto:

  • Adhesive residue
  • Lift/lamination solutions
  • Tint
  • Skin oils and debris

All of these not only reduce performance but also increase the risk of cross-contamination.

What You’ll Need

  • Antibacterial soap
  • Warm water
  • Lint-free cloth or disposable towel
  • 70% alcohol or 0.5–3% hydrogen peroxide (follow manufacturer timings)
  • A clean, closed container for storage

How to Clean Your Lash Lift Shield: Step-by-Step

1. Wash Shields in Antibacterial Soap

Right after the treatment, wash the shields using antibacterial soap. This helps break down product residue, oils, and any remaining adhesive.

2. Rinse With Warm Water

Thoroughly rinse the shields under warm running water to ensure no soap remains. Any leftover residue can interfere with your next lift.

3. Dry Completely

Pat the shields dry with a lint-free cloth and allow them to fully air-dry. This step is important as disinfectants (the next step) work best on dry surfaces.

4. Immerse Fully in Disinfectant

Once dry, submerge the shields completely in either:

  • 70% alcohol, or
  • 0.5–3% hydrogen peroxide solution

Follow the timing recommended for the concentration using, or the manufacturer’s instructions for proper dilution and contact time.

5. Rinse, Dry Again & Store

After disinfecting, rinse the shields with clean water, dry them fully again, and store them in a clean, closed container. This keeps them protected and ready for the next client.

How Often Should You Replace Lash Lift Shields?

Even with perfect cleaning, shields eventually wear out. It’s time to replace them if you notice:

  • Warping or discolouration
  • Tears or thinning silicone
  • Permanent adhesive or tint staining
  • Loss of shape

Following this simple routine helps keep your clients safe, protects your reputation as a professional, and ensures your lash lifts always look their best.
