Top Tips for Lash Lifts

Whether you’ve just completed your training or have been qualified for a while, sometimes lash lifting can be tricky!

Sometimes the lash lift doesn’t take, the shields move around, or the lashes don’t stick! But don’t worry we are here to help. We’ve put together some helpful tips and tricks to help you with the lash lift treatment.

How do I do a lash lift?

Before you start the treatment, make sure to massage your sachets for around 1 minute. This helps the solution warm through, and the ingredients mix together and will produce a more even result.

When doing a lash lift treatment with Lifted, we recommend following the below steps:

  1. Cleanse the lashes thoroughly with the Protein Remover Pads, to remove dirt and oils. Ensure the lashes are dry by patting them with a tissue.
  2. Ask the client to look upwards whilst placing an eye pad onto the lower lashes.
  3. Apply the adhesive along the underside of the shield and wait a few seconds. Place on the client’s eyelid as close to the lash line as possible.  Hold securely until adhesive is set.
  4. Working in small sections, apply a thin amount of adhesive along the shield. Using a Y Comb or the Lifted Tool, lift the lashes up from the root onto the shield, ensuring they have adhered securely. Repeat on the other eye.

Top Tip – Make sure to check the lashes are separated and straight as you do each section. This is important to ensure great results!

  1. Dispense Step 1 Lifting Solution into a palette. Using an applicator wand, apply the solution along the lash line. Leave the Lifting solution on for 10-15 depending on the condition of the natural lashes.
  2. Once processed, remove all traces of the Lifting Solution with a dry cotton pad. Repeat the process with Step 2 Fixing Solution. Leave on for approximately 7-10 minutes.
  3. Remove gently with a dry cotton pad, ensuring all traces of Step 2 Fixing Solution are removed.
  4. Apply brow tint if required.
  5. Remove any excess tint with damp cotton pads. The using damp cotton buds gently wipe across the lashes and swipe under the shields. Carefully ease the shields away from the eyelids.
  6. Remove Eye Pads. With a damp cotton pad, remove any remaining traces of tint. You can always ask the client to clean their eyes themselves.
  7. Pat dry with a tissue, dispense Step 3 Enrich Solution. Use a mascara wand to brush through the lashes gently. Make sure the product is left on for 12 hours.

During the treatment

Before you start the lash lift treatment, you’ll need to carefully assess the eyelashes. We recommend following the timings stated in our lash lift guidelines above. However, if the client’s eyelashes are coarse/damaged, you may need to adjust the timings to improve the lift.

You can also use cling film during the treatment, to lock in heat and help the product to work through. Remember cling film will speed up the process and shouldn’t be used if the lashes are damaged.

Top Tips

Cut your shield – Sometimes the shield can be too big for the client's eye. To resolve this, simply trim the outer edge of the shield to fit.

Shield Positioning – Before applying the lash lift shield, lightly tape down the client's lashes to the eye pad. This will give a clear view of the lash line. By doing this you can position the shield as close to the lash line as possible.

Taping the lid – Apply some de-tacked tape to the eyelid and place the shield on top. Shields adhere better to tape, meaning the shield won’t move during treatment!

Lifting the Eyelids – If you have a client with loose skin on their eyelids, then this hack is for you. Using Micropore tape, simply press one end down, close to the lash line, and pull the tape up slightly. This will help lift the lid up and increase the visibility of the lash line.

Lash Lift Didn’t Take?

Sometimes the clients lashes just don’t lift. This can be frustrating, however there are several reasons a lash lift doesn’t take.

Here are a few:

  • Too much adhesive
  • Not cleansing properly
  • Storage of solutions
  • Placement
  • Timings
  • Shield Size

If you would like to know more about what you can do to avoid this happening, we have a blog with more details here.

Aftercare

As with any treatment, good client aftercare is vital. It’s important to make sure your clients understand the steps they need to follow to ensure their lashes stay lifted and long.

The client must keep their lashes dry for the first 24 hours, so the nourishing lotion has time to work through.

A lash lift should last up to 8 weeks depending on how the lashes are cared for.  Here are a few more aftercare tips you can share with your client:

  • For the first 24 hours after the lashes should be treated with care. No rubbing, pulling, or harsh products.
  • For the first 24 hours after the treatment avoid getting the lashes wet, specifically no showers, hot baths, swimming, and saunas.
  • We recommend using a lash serum between appointments to keep lashes in the best possible condition.
