Lash Extension Aftercare

It is just as important to look after your lash extensions as it is for your Lash Technician to prep your lashes prior to application!

Eyelash aftercare is just as important as the application process. Not caring for lash extensions is like going to sleep in a face full of makeup – not nice! In today’s blog, we are going to discuss the importance of lash aftercare and what vital things you need to do to get the most out of your lash extensions.

You have spent not only your hard earned money but also your precious time having beautiful lashes applied. So why is it important to follow the Lash Extension Aftercare that your lash technician has given you?

  1. Your lashes will maintain better retention for longer
  2. You will spend less time on the couch having your lashes prepped
  3. Your natural lashes will not suffer and will stay healthier

So what Lash Extension Aftercare should you follow?
We have put together some important advice below for you to follow, however, do make sure you follow the advice of your lash tech as well after all they will know your lashes.

  • DO NOT use steam rooms, saunas or sunbeds for 48 hours
  • DO NOT perm, tint or use eyelash curlers
  • DO NOT use waterproof or oil based mascara on your extensions as they contain chemical properties that will break down the adhesive
  • DO be gentle around your eyes, don’t rub or pick at your extensions
  • DO use an eyelash comb or mascara wand, these are great for grooming your lashes each morning
  • DO gently wash daily with eyelash cleanser, keeping the root area clean.

Why is lash aftercare important?

Lash artists provide aftercare advice for a reason. By cleaning your lash extensions daily you’ll see an improvement in long-term retention, meaning your lashes will look fuller for longer. Not caring for your lashes means you may see premature lash loss and find yourself losing lashes quickly. It’s also a common myth that lash extensions can’t get wet as this will ruin the adhesive bond, however, this is false! You can still shower as you normally do, and a little water never hurt a lash!

Good lash aftercare will also help prevent infections. Your natural lashes are there to prevent bacteria from getting into your eyes, and lash extensions do the same job. But if you’re not cleaning your extensions the bacteria will start to build up and could cause an infection.

Poor aftercare can also result in a build-up of dead skin and makeup on the lash line. So when you go in for your infill, your lash technician will struggle to apply extensions to unclean lashes and the bond will be affected. Resulting in your lashes not lasting.

Some lash artists offer an aftercare pack that you can purchase at the end of your appointment. These are great as they take out the hard work and the products are there ready to use. You can also invest in a lash-safe makeup remover to help remove eyeshadow and powder that may have fallen onto the lash to help keep your lashes clean in between washing them.

When you’ve paid for a full set of lashes, you want them to last. So the importance of aftercare really is vital to keeping your lashes full and long-lasting, and without causing damage to your natural lash.
