How to carry out a brow lamination
Brow laminations have become one of the most requested brow treatments, giving clients fuller, fluffier, and more defined brows in under an hour. Your client could want to tame unruly brows, create a lifted look, or just add shape to sparse brows… the brow lamination is a such a versatile treatment that it delivers for any request.
If you're wondering how to carry out brow laminations, this guide covers everything you need to know, from preparation and treatment steps to aftercare tips for long-lasting results.
What Is Brow Lamination?
Brow lamination is a professional treatment that restructures the natural brow hairs, allowing them to be brushed into a fuller, more uniform shape. It's suitable for most brow types and can help create the appearance of thicker, more symmetrical brows without the need for permanent makeup.
Important to Know
One of the biggest misconceptions about brow lamination is that the brows will stay perfectly styled for the entire six weeks. While the treatment relaxes and reshapes the hairs, clients will still need to brush their brows into place each day to maintain the fluffy, lifted finish.
How to Carry Out Brow Laminations
Before beginning any brow lamination treatment, always ensure your client has had a clear patch test and has no contraindications to treatment.
These are the guidelines using Lifted. 3 step system.
-
Cleanse the brows thoroughly with Lifted. Cleansing Pads. Follow with Lifted. Lash & Brow Primer to remove any dirt or oils.
-
If you wish to use an adhesive (optional step), use a disposable applicator wand to apply a thin layer of Lifted. Adhesive to the first brow.
-
With your Y comb, lift the eyebrow hairs up, adjusting the placement to achieve your desired look. Repeat on the other brow.
-
Dispense Step 1. Lifting Solution into a palette (or similar). Using an applicator wand, apply the solution along the brow.
-
Leave the Step 1 Lifting Solution on for 8-10 minutes, depending on the condition and thickness of the natural hairs.
-
If you use Lifted. Lifting & Lamination Wrap, this is the stage at which you would place it on top of the brows. Apply a strip of the wrap over the brows and leave to process.
-
Be aware that Lifted. Lifting & Lamination Wrap will speed up the Lifted. process and should be avoided if the hairs are damaged.
Please note: If you are in a warm room, keep an eye on the brow hairs as higher temperature can speed up the processing time.
-
Once processed, remove all traces of the Lifting Solution with a dry cotton pad, followed by a damp cotton pad to ensure all traces are removed.
-
Comb the hairs into their desired shape.
-
Repeat the process with Step 2 Fixing Solution. Leave on for approximately 5-7 minutes, depending on the condition of the natural lashes.
-
Remove gently with a dry cotton pad, followed by a damp cotton pad, ensuring all traces of the Fixing solutions are removed.
-
If you are applying tint, mix Lifted. Tint with developer and apply with a flat or angled brush.
-
Remove any excess tint with damp cotton pads.
-
Pat dry with a tissue. Dispense Step 3 Enriching Solution, and using an applicator wand or brow lamination brush, comb through gently. This should be left on for 12 hours.
The treatment is now complete. Give the client a handheld mirror to see the results. Provide aftercare advice and rebook their next appointment.
These are the Lifted. guidelines. If you were taught to laminate the brows in a different way, please refer to your training guidelines.
Brow Lamination Tips for the Best Results
Every client's brow hairs are different, so it's important to assess their condition before starting the treatment.
While the recommended timings provide an excellent guide, you may need to slightly adjust the processing time for particularly coarse or resistant brows. Avoid over-processing fine or damaged hairs.
Using cling film can help improve processing, but only when the brow hairs are healthy enough to tolerate the additional warmth. Also, as mentioned before, if your room is particularly warm, keep a close eye on the brow hairs as warmth speeds up processing times.
Careful placement of the brow hairs before processing will have the biggest impact on the final result, so don't rush this stage.
Brow Lamination Aftercare
Proper aftercare plays a huge role in how long a brow lamination lasts. Make sure every client leaves their appointment knowing exactly how to care for their new brows.
For the first 24 hours after treatment, clients should:
- Keep their brows completely dry.
- Avoid touching or rubbing the brow hairs.
- Avoid hot showers, baths, steam rooms, saunas and swimming.
- Leave the Step 3 Enrich Solution (or Lash & Brow Nourishing Conditioner) on the brows for the full 12 hours.
After the first 24 hours, clients can gently brush their brows into their preferred shape after showering while the hairs are slightly damp. This helps the brows settle back into their lifted position.
To keep brows healthy between appointments, recommend using a nourishing Brow Conditioning Serum or Brow Gel daily. The Lifted. Lash & Brow Nourishing Conditioner is great to retail to your clients for looking after brow laminations.
How Long Does Brow Lamination Last?
A professional brow lamination treatment typically lasts up to six weeks, although results vary depending on the client's natural hair growth cycle, hair type and how well they follow the aftercare advice.
Regular conditioning and gentle daily brushing will help keep the brows looking fluffy and well-groomed until their next appointment.
