Mastering the Art of Fan Making: A Guide for Volume Lash Artists

Finding the Perfect Tweezers

Your tweezers are your best friend when it comes to fan-making. There are many different types of tweezers available, each with its own unique features. It's important to experiment and find a pair that feels comfortable in your hand and provides the right grip for your chosen fanning technique. Some important factors to consider when choosing tweezers include:

• Grip: The tweezers should have a comfortable grip that won't cause your hand to get tired.
• Biting point: The biting point is the area where the tweezers meet at the tips. A sharp biting point is essential for creating precise fans.
• Angle: The angle of the tweezers will affect how you hold them and how you fan the lashes. Some lash artists prefer straight tweezers, while others prefer curved tweezers.

Fanning Techniques

Once you have the perfect tweezers, you can start practicing different fanning techniques. There are many different ways to make fans, so it's important to find one that you feel comfortable with and that produces the results you desire. Here are a few popular fanning techniques:

Push and Bloom: For this method and any of the strip methods you will need to use either glue dots or Sellotape Sticky fixers.

• Carefully grab some lashes and gently pull them forward halfway
• Slide the tweezers down further and pull them off the strip. Ensure that the base is straight, together and not uneven or split.
• Push the base into the sticky pad at 45° angle and let go.
• As it bounces back the lashes should pop open into a fan and bloom like a flower.
• If you require the lashes to be wider, use your tweezers to manipulate a little.
• Take hold of the fan securely and pull it off gently so it remains fanned at the top and a nice V point at the base and place on the natural lash.

Roll: This technique is a good option for creating wide fans. To make a roll fan, simply push the lashes to the left and then use the point of your tweezers to gently roll them across to the right, creating a fan shape.

Wiggle: This technique is a quick and easy way to make fans. To make a wiggle fan, simply grip the base of the lashes with your tweezers and gently wiggle them from left to right until they fan out.

Lean and Pick Up: This technique is a good option for creating precise fans. Push to the left and then with your tweezers at the base, fan them back to the right, gently picking to create your perfect fan.

Finger Method (pinching, finger roll): The finger method is a popular alternative to using tweezers. To make a fan using the finger method, simply remove a few lashes from the strip and place them between your thumb and forefinger. Gently pinch and roll the lashes with your fingers to create a fan shape. Then, use your tweezers to grip the base of the fan and place it on the natural lash.

Practice Makes Perfect

The most important thing to remember when practicing fan-making is to be patient. Developing the skills and muscle memory necessary to create perfect fans takes time. Don't get discouraged if you don't see results immediately. Just keep practicing, and you will eventually be able to create beautiful, symmetrical fans that will take your lashing skills to the next level.
