Patch Testing for Lash Lifts Guidelines - LIFTED. edition

We’ve put together a quick and helpful guide to walk you through the patch testing process for LIFTED.

Patch testing is an essential step when it comes to lash lifting and tinting. Reactions don’t always happen straight away, sensitivities and allergies can build up over time. This means clients who’ve had multiple treatments are actually more likely to react than someone having their first lash lift or tint.

That’s why it’s so important to patch test. Not only is it the safest approach, but most insurance providers also require it to help reduce the risk of allergic reactions after a full treatment.

Here’s how to carry out a patch test correctly:

  • Start with a consultation.
  • Record the date of the patch test and where the product was applied.
  • Apply a small amount of the product (tint must be mixed first) to the inside of the elbow or wrist, and let it dry.
  • Have the client sign to confirm the patch test was completed.
  • When they return for their appointment, make sure they sign again and update the results.

Test results:

Let your client know that any reaction usually shows up within 24-48 hours. The patch test area should be left undisturbed for 24 hours. If there’s no reaction, it can be washed off. If they do notice redness, itching, or swelling, they should let you know and seek medical advice… and in that case, the treatment must not go ahead.

We recommend redoing patch tests for Lifted every six months to stay on the safe side.

To make things easier, we’ve created client record and consultation cards to help you keep track of details, patch testing, and treatments all in one place.
